Fabric Care Guide
Care by fabric, not by habit. Cold washes, gentle cycles, and low heat keep the fit sharp and the finish premium.
Universal care rules (use for most items)
-
Cold wash: 20–30°C.
-
Inside out: protects colour + surface.
-
Gentle detergent: avoid harsh stain removers unless spot-treating.
-
No fabric softener: it coats fibres and can reduce softness over time (especially on performance blends and prints).
-
Air dry when possible: heat is the fastest way to shrink, fade, and damage fibres.
-
Low spin (800–1000 rpm): less pilling, better shape.
1) 100% Cotton (tees, shirts, basics)
Wash
-
20–30°C, gentle cycle
-
Separate lights/darks
-
Avoid bleach
Dry
-
Air dry (best)
-
If tumble drying: low heat only
Iron
-
Medium heat, preferably inside out (especially if printed/embroidered)
Pro tip: For heavyweight cotton, reshape seams/hem while damp to keep that clean drape.
2) Fleece (hoodies, sweats)
Wash
-
20–30°C, gentle cycle
-
Wash with similar items (avoid denim, towels, zips)
Dry
-
Air dry to keep softness and reduce bobbling
-
Tumble dry low if needed, remove while slightly damp and reshape
Avoid
-
High heat (can flatten the fleece and cause shrink)
3) Cotton blends & mixed fabrics (cotton/poly, cotton/elastane, etc.)
Why it’s different: Blends can hold shape well, but heat can damage elasticity and cause shine/pilling.
Wash
-
20–30°C
-
Gentle cycle
-
Avoid softener (especially if elastane is present)
Dry
-
Air dry
-
Low tumble only if required
Pro tip: If it has stretch, never use high heat—elastic fibres break down over time.
4) Genuine Leather (jackets, leather goods)
Do
-
Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear
-
Spot clean with a slightly damp cloth (test first)
-
Condition occasionally with a leather conditioner
-
Store on a wide hanger in a breathable space
Don’t
-
Don’t machine wash or soak
-
Don’t tumble dry
-
Don’t use bleach, alcohol cleaners, or heavy detergents
-
Don’t dry near radiators or direct sun
If it gets wet
-
Pat dry (don’t rub), air dry naturally, condition lightly once fully dry
5) Velvet (cotton velvet / synthetic velvet)
Wash (best practice)
-
Prefer dry clean for structured velvet pieces
-
If label allows washing: cold hand wash or delicate cycle in a mesh bag
Dry
-
Never wring
-
Lay flat to dry, away from heat/sun
Care
-
Steam lightly to lift the pile (don’t press hard with an iron)
-
Brush gently with a soft garment brush to restore texture
6) Wool (knits, coats)
Wash
-
Best: hand wash cold with wool-friendly detergent
-
If machine: wool cycle cold, inside out
Dry
-
Lay flat on a towel, reshape (never hang wet—stretches)
Avoid
-
Hot water + agitation = shrinking/felting
7) Cashmere (premium knitwear)
Wash
-
Cold hand wash (10–20°C) with cashmere/wool detergent
-
Soak briefly, gentle squeeze (don’t rub)
Dry
-
Lay flat, reshape
-
Keep away from heat
Storage
-
Fold (don’t hang)
-
Use a breathable bag; consider cedar/moth protection
Pro tip: Wash cashmere less—air out after wear and spot clean when possible.
8) Silk (shirts, linings, scarves)
Wash
-
Prefer hand wash cold with silk detergent
-
If machine allowed: delicate cycle, mesh bag, cold
Dry
-
Lay flat or hang dry in shade
Iron
-
Very low heat, inside out, ideally with a cloth barrier (or steam)
Avoid
-
Bleach, strong stain removers, heavy rubbing
9) Chiffon (often polyester or silk chiffon)
Wash
-
Delicate cycle cold in a mesh bag, or hand wash cold
-
Gentle detergent only
Dry
-
Hang dry (dries quickly), avoid direct sun
Care
-
Low heat steam is safer than ironing
